Mrs. Mayer - 2/3 Multiage Math Activity
Mrs. Mayer starts off her math less with a whole class discussion about the terms "mental math" and "decomposing." She builds onto the student's understanding and models sample problems. After their whole class discussion, students are sent to their desks to work independently to problems that involve decomposing. Some students start with padlet (an online discussion wall) while others work on their classwork (traditional math paper/pencil) and then as the padlet station opens up, students will stop their classwork and take a turn on padlet. |
Multiage Whole School Activity Every year Mrs. Takei and her 7th & 8th grade students celebrate Pi Day (on or near March 14th). They set up multiple stations that are age appropriate for K-6th graders. Then each of the other classes has the opportunity to visit the Pi Day Celebration and learn/explore Pi with the help of the Junior High Kids. |

Mrs. Dorighi's 2/3 Multiage Writing Activities
Mrs. Dorighi provides both direct instruction and classwork to the whole class without separating the 2nd from the 3rd graders. Although students are reminded of minimum requirements based on grade level, they are encouraged to work to their best ability and are not limited in what they are offered. In this example you can see how technology has redefined tradition writer's workshops and incorporated the 7 C's with the technology. |
Outdoor Classroom & Garden
All of our classes utilize the Garden and Outdoor Classroom. Some classes have 'gardening' days where they come out weed, water, compost, and harvest their classroom planters. Other days, students use the outdoor classroom for working, silent reading, or buddy classes meet to partner read or work together on gardening. Classes have been known to have celebrations or holiday parties in the garden area as well. |

K/1 Classroom Visit
Take a walk through a typical morning in a K/1 Classroom. The greatest thing about our multi-age rooms, you never know what grade a student is in. Leadership is not based on age; it's based on learning to communicate with peer and understanding the material being used/worked with. Students are always challenged! While there may be set directions or expectations set for each grade level, students are constantly reminded that they can work to a higher level and choose to reach above the minimum requirements. |
